Convent / House of Prayer
Installation of Residential Elevator
Rationale: To
better accommodate our elderly Sisters’ movements in our home and to
facilitate our service to groups and individuals who come here for
retreat days or overnights, we seek to install an elevator. This
improvement will impact our community life, food service, hospitality.
Plans: We are
completing our plans with an architect and contractor. Our
Friends are assisting us with fund-raising efforts
Telephone Mailbox
System
Rationale:
We would like to install a system that retrieves
messages in a personal
and professional matter for both our Sisters in residence and for the
needs of our House of Prayer. We would include a list of extensions for the individual
Sisters. A separate mailbox could accommodate the messages of
those who call us to request private retreats, to inquire about our
advertised programs, or to schedule their group’s meetings at our
House of Prayer.
Plans:
Remove the existing answering machine.
Replace with a mailbox system within the
telephone
Franciscan Morning and Evening Praise books
Rationale:
We would like a set of 30 books to use with
groups. The Franciscan Federation has
recently published such a book.
Plans: Purchase
30 books, at $ 60 each, for use with groups.
Stations
of the Cross Garden
Rationale: Our present ‘Stations of the Cross’ are on the shady, southeastern hill of
our front lawn, to the left of our driveway as one enters the property.
The redbrick path gets slippery with moss and the weeds and undergrowth
abound. We would like to cut some trees, to allow for more sun
coverage, and replace the brick pathway with some large aggregate tile
steps
In addition, we would like to plan and then plant some perennial flowering bushes and groundcover to enhance the Stations’ appearance and add to its prayerful atmosphere.
The costs of these improvements could be divided into Memorial Donations.

Plans:
Remove some non-native trees to allow for more sun in the area
Remove red-brick walking path
Replace path with large aggregate blocks
Reinforce hand-rail along the path
Plant native perennial flowering bushes and greens on the site
